Today, around half of the world’s population lives in cities. By 2050, this figure will have risen to 75 percent.

Within these high-density areas, it will become increasingly important to ensure that residents can continue to enjoy a good quality of life without depleting the earth’s resources.

Will this be possible?

The solution to this problem comes in the form of “sustainable cities”. These cities are made up of environmentally-friendly, sustainable buildings, along with energy supply systems, traffic systems, etc. Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg and Uppsala are already considered sustainable cities.

Promoting the supply of clean energy is especially important in these cities, and we at Vattenfall are keen to be involved. We are now in the process of comprehensively evaluating these energy systems and developing new products and services to maximise energy efficiency.
